The previous record number of retirements at a post-war General Election was 1997 when 117 MPs stepped down.
The current number of announcements is already 102.
Newsnight's Michael Crick notes Eric Pickles' prediction that 17 more Conservatives will go. He suggests 30 to 40 more retirements from the Labour Party. Adding in a few Liberal Democrats, Irish and other MPs he gets to 140 to 150. Some, he says, predict the fall away may get to 200.
