Two-and-a-half years ago James Gray MP won a readoption vote after months of speculation about his treatment of his ex-wife but his critics have never given up. Recent questions about his use of expenses and the fact he got remarried threatened to reignite constituency upsets. A report in this morning's Western Daily Press will give Mr Gray some breathing space, however.
Mr Cameron issued a statement: "James Gray is a hard-working member of Parliament and a valued member of the team at Westminster."
Desmond Swayne MP, the Tory leader's long-serving Parliamentary Private Secretary, added in a message to Mr Gray: "You should be well assured of the leader's strong support."
