When the Conservatives attacked the Government's position on immigration at the 2005 general election and Michael Howard proposed an Australian-style points-based system for immigration, Tony Blair accused the party of "an attempt deliberately to exploit people's fears".
So it's interesting to note that four years down the line and Labour are going out of their way to trumpet their policy of... an Australian-style points-based system for immigration.
Below is an extract from a circular letter being sent by Labour candidates to voters in marginal seats in the West Midlands, which also attempts to link David Cameron with the policy of an amnesty for illegal immigrants supported by Boris Johnson.
