Martin Curtis was yesterday selected to fight Nottingham North at the next general election.
Martin is currently a member of both Fenland district council - where he is chairman of planning - and Cambridgeshire county council, where he is Cabinet member for Children and Young People's Services. He also represents his local community on its town council. He is a school governor and enjoys running in his spare time. He also writes the Spin Blog.
Nottingham North has been held for Labour by Graham Allen since 1987, when he beat the one-term Conservative MP, Richard Ottaway, who found a safer seat in Croydon South in 1992.
The Rallings and Thrasher projection (based on the 2005 general election result) of the seat after minor boundary changes suggests that Allen will go into the general election defending a notional majority of 12,870 over the Conservatives, with Martin requiring a swing of a little over 18 per cent to take the seat.
