It was only on Friday evening that Cllr John Howell was selected as our candidate in Henley but most of the constituency has already been 'delivered' with the leaflet you can read at the bottom of this post. The delivery will be completed today. David Lidington MP, who was part of the leaflet team reports good organisation, lots of activists and a warm welcome of Cllr Howell's local credentials. The leaflet attacks the LibDems for dumping their local candidate and replacing her with an "outsider" who "comes from South West Devon, has a house in Shropshire, and works for a London charity." The first Tory leaflet also attacks LibDem plans for a local income tax which could "double" bills for many people in Henley.
It may be nonsense or it may be mischief-making but this morning's Independent on Sunday reports that the Conservatives are considering offering Nick Clegg the position of Home Secretary should Britain return a hung parliament after the next General Election. Tory strategists believe that it is easier to beat the LibDems by being nice to them and it's not impossible that this Nick Clegg story is part of an effort to 'lovebomb' LD supporters in Henley. But... can you hear the sound of David Davis choking on his cornflakes?!
