Jim Hood, Labour MP for Lanark & Hamilton East, has attacked the selection of Cllr John Howell - a former accountant - as our candidate in Henley:
"Is the Tory Party not running out of super rich male lawyers and accountants yet. What happened to David Cameron's, 'I want the Tory Party to be more representative of the whole country and select more women in winnable seats' pledge?
Tut, tut, this will not do Mr Cameron."
You would have thought that, after this politics of envy had failed in Crewe, that Labour might have found a new approach. It appears not.
Sky News is speculating that the by-election might now be on 3rd July rather than CCHQ's preferred date of 26th June. If it's to be 26th June the writ will have to be moved in the Commons by this Thursday and Boris will immediately cease to be an MP. The trouble, says Sky's Jon Craig, is that Mayor Johnson wants to be in the House next week to vote against Labour's plans on 42 days.
