Do you think EVERY Tory member in your region should be able to rank ALL MEP candidates at the next European elections?
Richard Ashworth MEP (SE): The current system was devised by the Board for this selection only. Once the election is over, no doubt the Board will reflect on, and review its operation with a view to deciding which system to use in future selection processes.
Dan Hannan MEP (SE): Yes
Niina Kaariniemi (SE): Definitely
Richard Robinson (SE): Yes
Therese Coffey (SE): Yes, I would support the Board moving to that selection process for next time.
Marc Brunel-Walker (SE): I am content with the Selection Rules established by the Board of the Conservative Party
Tony Devenish (SE): Like all the Candidates I knew what the rules were before I applied and I am content to adher to what the South East area Association delegates agreed. Anyway how could anyone object to incumbent MEP's such as Dan now expelled from the federalist EPP!
Sarah Richardson (SE): I would be happy for the rules to be changed to allow that for the next selection.
Julie Girling (SW): Yes. If elected this time I expect to be judged on my record.
Ashley Fox (SW): Yes
Mike Dolley (SW): I would not feel comfortable commenting on the rules of selection whilst I am currently part of a selection process. The reality of the situation is that such rules will be determined by the Board of the Party. I will abide by them.
Don Collier (SW): The selection of of MEPs should match the selection to MPs as closely as possible. I believe that is what the Party Board has tried to do this time. I am sure it will look a the process and make changes if required, as it did this time.
Zehra Zaidi (SW): As a candidate, I have agreed to abide by the present rules of selection. After each candidate is ranked under the postal ballot, I expect the Board of the Party to review its selection procedure. For the next European elections, I would support any proposals that enable every Tory member in a particular region to be able to rank all MEP candidates – that answer would of course be the same, even if I am one of the existing MEPs being ranked.
Charles Tannock MEP (L): This is a matter for the Party Board to decide but personally, I have no objection to any system provided it is by a full postal ballot to all regional party members and not a single husting with less than 1% of party membership turning up and therfore open to busing in and manipulation.
Syed Kamall MEP (L): This is not part of my brief. I am proud of my record and happy to stand under whatever system the Party determines.
Nirj Deva MEP (L): Yes. I am proud of my record and I am happy to be judged on it by every single Conservative member in the South East region.
Warwick Lightfoot (L): Yes
Bob Seely (L): Yes
Alison Sproule (L): Yes
Jean-Paul Floru (L): Yes
Marina Yannakoudakis (L): I am content with the selection rules, and would not have stood did I feel otherwise.
Graham Postles (L): I knew the process when I applied and I am happy to abide by the current rules. However, next time round members should be able to rank all of the MEP candidates. In politics we should all be prepared to be judged on our record. We ask it of others in business, the professions and the public sector. We shouldn't make exceptions for ourselves.
Geoffrey Van Orden MEP (E): Yes, provided we are given the opportunity to address all that vote, and respond to their questions.
Jonathan Morgan (E): I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the membership's selection process for the 2004 European Election, fighting to become the Eastern Region's 4th Conservative MEP, by standing for the 2009 election, I have, like all the other candidates, had to accept the current rules.
John Flack (E): I of course accept the Selection Rules for the 2009 election established by the Board of the Party. I would prefer to see single member Constituencies re-introduced for future elections and for all members to have a chance to vote.
Clare Whelan (E): I am content with the Selection Rules established by the Board of the Party.
Claire Strong (E): I knew the rules for this selection – they are different to those for 2004 and no doubt the Board of the Conservative Party will review and make changes for 2014.
Vicky Strong (E): I am content with the Selection Rules established by the Board of the Party.
Roger Helmer MEP (EM): Yes
George Lee (EM): I believe that by voluntarily entering the selection process with an awareness of the rules then one has to accept and be content with the Selection Rules established by the Board of the Party for that process. Should the Board of the Party seek to review these rules in the future I would make any suggested alterations to the process, that I may have, at that time
Fiona Bulmer (EM): Yes
Rupert Matthews (EM): I am happy to work within the current system for this selection. I would like to see this option included next time around.
Emma McClarkin (EM): I do. But I accept we have to work within the Party's existing system.
Eveleigh Moore-Dutton (WM): Yes
Anthea McIntyre (WM): Yes
Dan Dalton (WM): Yes
Evan Price (W): When I agreed to become a candidate, I understood and signed up to the selection rules. I am happy with them and believe that the party in Wales has, so far as my colleagues are concerned, selected fantastic candidates that will make Conservatives in Wales proud – I hope that others think the same of me.
Emma Greenow (W): I am content with the Selection Rules established by the Board of the Party.
Karen Robson (W): As a candidate in the European Elections I support the selection rules as agreed by the Board of the party.
Kay Swinburne (W): As a Welsh speaking candidate I have only applied for Wales, a region which does not have an incumbent Conservative MEP as Jonathan Evans is stepping down to fight a Westminster seat at the next election. The selection process in Wales appears to have been scrupulously fair to all applicants although I personally would prefer the result of the ballot to yield the final ranking irrespective of gender. However, I applied as a candidate knowing the selection rules and therefore accept them.
Sir Robert Atkins MEP (NW): I am content with the newly-amended process.
Alexander Williams (NW): Yes
Fiona Bruce (NW): I accept the Selection Rules established by the Board of the Party.
Peter Wilding (NW): I am content with the Selection Rules established by the Board of the Party.
Martin Callanan MEP (NE): Yes. All previous MEP selections have involved all members in our regions. Hard working MEP's have nothing to fear under such a system.
Emma Moore (NE): Yes, you should be judged both on what you say you will do and what you have done. However, I think we are lucky to have such an excellent set of Conservative MEPs in place already. I would be proud to serve alongside Martin Callahan if selected by the Party membership in the North East, and we fight our way to another one or two seats!
Barbara Musgrave (NE): I am content with the Selection Rules established by the Board of the Party.
