Alun Cairns AM was adopted as the Tory candidate for the Vale of Glamorgan last night. He issued the following statement:
“I am absolutely delighted to have won the backing of party members in the Vale and to have been given the chance to fight the next Parliamentary election. After running Labour so close in 2005 and at the recent Assembly elections I feel there is some unfinished business for the Conservatives in this constituency. I am under no illusion about the scale of the task ahead of me but feel that we are on the brink of breaking Labour’s 10-year grip on the seat. I hope that by becoming an MP I will be able to bring my eight years’ experience in the Assembly and use it to full effect at Westminster. It is important that people with experience of devolved politics are able to transfer that knowledge to Westminster. Welsh Conservatives are committed to giving the people of Wales a strong voice at Westminster and in the National Assembly. The next General Election will be a straight fight between Labour and Conservative, both in the Vale of Glamorgan and across the United Kingdom.”
Labour has a projected majority in the seat of 1,664.
