A group of local Councillors and Party activists, as well as local resident Prof Roger Scruton, are writing to members of the North Wiltshire Conservative Association about James Gray MP in reaction to the letter issued yesterday by other local activists.
It rejects assertions made in the previous letter that Gray would be considered alongside other candidates if rejected, that another candidate would stand against him in the parliamentary elections, and that Gray used Sarah’s illness to “curry favour”.
The local press is reporting fears that the husband whose wife Gray had an affair with will conduct a damaging campaign against him if he survives the members' vote (which begins tomorrow).

4pm update from The Telegraph: Gray is to send a follow-up letter listing his achievements as MP
