Craven councillor Julia Mulligan beat Leeds Councillor Barry Anderson (who came second) and former Bradford North candidate Zahid Iqbal for the LibDem-held seat of Leeds North West yesterday. The student vote - which some estimates suggest counts for a quarter of the constituency electorate - made the seat a LibDem gain at the last General election. The projected LibDem majority of 911 is over Labour and the Tories find themselves in third place with 26.3% of the vote. After two dropped before the first round, no A-listers contested the seat.
