Michael Horwood, LGBTory Organiser for London and the Home Counties, submits this report on London's Pride march (from last Saturday, 3rd July):
“The Conservative LGBT presence at Pride this year has been one of the largest to date and we're extremely proud of that. With the attendance of 34 activists, Boris Johnson, three Conservative MPs and the leader of the Conservative group on the London Assembly, we disappointed activists from other parties who were counting on a poor show from the Conservatives. One of the key aims of LGBTory is to fight the negative stereotypes successfully imposed on us by the Labour Party and opposition parties. With such a strong showing at Pride this year, we can ensure we have a strong rebuttal to these slurs and can continue to promote the Conservative Party's ideology and principles amongst LGBT voters. We were pleasantly surprised at the cheers of support we received during the march and have subsequently had many messages of support from Conservative Party members who were pleased to see a strong Conservative presence at Pride this year. LGBTory also has plans to attend Pride events across the country in the coming weeks, including Leeds, Manchester, Brighton and Glasgow.”
