Daniel Kawczynski is 35 years old and is married to Kate. They live in Shawbury, near Shrewsbury, with their one year old daughter Alexis.
Daniel was brought up in Surrey, before going to Stirling University to study Business Studies with French and Spanish, where he met Kate. He then worked in telecommunications for ten years as an international account manager, travelling extensively in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
Daniel's surname is of Polish origin and he has kept it as he is proud of his grandfather and all the Polish pilots, soldiers and navy personnel who came over to Britain during World War Two. As his surname is difficult to pronounce* and even harder to spell, he is generally known as 'Daniel', rather than 'Mr Kawczynski'...which is much more friendly.
Upon entering Parliament, Daniel was almost immediately appointed to the prestigious Agricultural Select Committee (Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) in June 2005.
Daniel set up an All Party Parliament Group for Dairy Farming in April 2006. With the support of dozens of MPs and Lords from all parties, Daniel is campaigning for a fairer deal for dairy farmers in the UK, to protect the future of this important part of British agriculture. Daniel is the chair of this Group and is supported by the Royal Association for British Dairy Farmers.
In his rather limited spare time, Daniel enjoys gardening and playing golf.
(* Kawczynski is pronounced kav - chin - ski.)
