The sole purpose of the London Assembly is to approve the Mayor's budget and make policy recommendations. For this assuredly part-time job, Assembly Members are paid a satirically high salary of £53,439 plus pension.
Here's my question: why shouldn't we scrap the Assembly and pass the responsibilities of AMs to the leaders of the borough councils?
