My Centre Right post on Friday, drawing attention to the apparent nostalgia for the USSR held by Compass Chairman Neal Lawson, drew some interesting reactions from lefties.
One commenter denied the link, saying "Any
nostalgia for the Eastern Bloc is certainly not reflected in the
democratic socialism of Compass", another said I'd been "watching too much Glenn Beck", and a visiting Fabian accused me of "insulting
the millions of dead Allied soldiers - the Soviets and also their
American and British allies - who gave their lives fighting against
Far-Right tyranny". Meanwhile, over on Twitter a PCS Union official claimed I was erecting a "straw man" to "slur" Compass.
All that smoke led me to assume there was indeed the fire I had suspected. Then today, lo and behold, Guido Fawkes has the scoop which confirms my suspicions, reporting that propaganda for the Venezuela Solidarity Campaign and the Cuba Solidarity Campaign was not just being given out at the Compass conference, but it was "included in the official conference packs."
So now we know - Uncle Jo Stalin is not alone in the Compass "Hall of Progressive Fame", he has the dubious company of brutal murderers Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez, too. Compass certainly are going all out for the title of loony lefties of the year.
