I'm not sure that Civil Servants should line up en masse at their Departments' doors to applaud new Secretaries of State when they arrive for the first time.
None the less, Treasury civil servants did so to greet Gordon Brown when he went to the Treasury in 1997.
And Business civil servants did the same for Peter Mandelson in 2008.
So just remind me: did they do so for George Osborne last week? Or for any of the new Conservative and Coalition Secretaries of State?
If not, why not?
