The plight of Haiti is graphically portrayed in our papers and on TV. It is right that we know what is going on and the scale of the disaster so both governments and people respond generously and appropriately.
But do all the journalists from so many national and international outlets need to be there? The strain on resources can be imagined. Would it not be better if in the immediate aftermath there was a pooled agency arrangement so that the world got the messages and images needed with as little intrusion as possible on the desperate relief work?
