Putting together this morning's newslinks for the front page, I included the story in The Independent in which Anne Robinson talks about being approached by Steve Hilton, who asked her if she would consider running for London Mayor under the Conservative banner.
She says she has never revealed this before - but it was in fact already known that she had been approached. Excuse the shameless plug, but here's an extract from p.48 of Boris v Ken: How Boris Johnson Won London by Giles Edwards and, er, Jonathan Isaby:
"...The party's attempt to attract high-profile candidates was not going to plan. Other names who Conservative Campaign Headquarters (CCHQ) had originally hoped might be persuaded apparently included TV presenters Anne Robinson and Andrew Neil, Big Issue founder John Bird and ex-army chief General Sir Mike Jackson."
Should you wish to read the full story of the mayoral race, the book is still available on Amazon for a mere £7.49...
