I am alerted to this piece in today's Telegraph by Dr Eamonn Butler of the Adam Smith Institute, who explains that today is "Cost of Government Day".
Basically, he explains that for the last 176 days the average Briton has been working for the state and only now does he or she start working for him- or herself.
And as if we didn't already know what a state the economy is in, he adds that this year we have had to put in "10 days’ more work than last year in order to keep the Government afloat".
Enjoy the rest of the year folks!
