Won't Barroso's "regret" over the Tories' exit from the EPP be a badge of honour for Tory eurosceptics?

So, the European Commission President, Jose Manuel Barroso, "regrets" that the Conservatives are leaving the EPP.

Several things strike me:

1. What's it got to do with him?
2. How many members of the British public care for the opinions of the EC President, let alone when they relate to the internal machinations of the Conservative Party?
3. Won't any self-respecting Tory eurosceptic wear actually Barroso's "regret" as a badge of honour and take it as an additional sign that it is completely the right thing to be doing?
