News comes in this afternoon that Derek Simpson - the trade unionist who was revealed last weekend to have been staying at London's Waldorf Hilton hotel in a £399-a-night suite - has been re-elected Joint General Secretary of the Unite trade union.
In a four-way contest, he won by securing 38% of the vote, which is not much less than the percentage a general election-winning party usually gets.
But this was on a turnout of a mere 12%.
88% of Unite's eligible members could not be bothered to vote.
So next time Mr Simpson pops up on our TV screens, just remember that fewer than one in twenty of his members voted for him to "represent" them.

Sunday update: The full result is now up on the union's website and turnout was in fact 14.5%, menaing that Mr Simpson's mandate is in fact a whopping 5.48% of his members...
