A great spot by CCHQ this morning: during his "I'm saving the nation/world" tour, Gordon Brown went to Swindon to open a new school today.
All very well, except the school in question was actually opened back in September 2007.
Downing Street announced the Prime Ministerial visit to Isambard Community School to journalists thus:
"On the third day of his regional visit, the Prime Minister and Schools Minister Jim Knight will visit Swindon to open a new secondary school and highlight the transformation underway in schools across the country as a result of the government’s capital investment. The new Isambard Community School is an inspiring example of the benefits of such investment – not only to learning and teaching, but to the whole community.”
Here's what the local newspaper had to report on 13th September 2007:
"A new community school built with engineering legend Brunel in mind has opened in Redhouse. Isambard Community School opened its doors to secondary age students this week".
Chris Grayling has described the visit as a "sham photo opportunity" at the end of a tour which has consisted of "a series of sham announcements".
