So as the Government dithers over whether or not to expand Heathrow Airport, news emerges that they are looking at expanding Gatwick instead.

The red dot in the middle of the map on the left is the Crawley constituency - the only Labour held seat in the vicinity of Gatwick Airport and one which Laura Moffatt holds for her party with the perilously small majority of 37.
On the right is a map of the part of West London which sits under the Heathrow flight path, which contains a rather more sizeable clutch of Labour seats (and Tory marginals) - all of which are battleground territory come the next election.
Dare I suggest that there might be a little bit of political calculation going on?
