Now that the pollsters have been proved right, and John McCain has made his concession speech (a very gracious speech indeed, which reminds you yet again of his strength of character), what can we conservatives reasonably hope for from President Obama?
Two of my biggest hopes:
On the economy: Obama treats the unprecedented government intervention in the markets as a necessary evil required to save capitalism, and that he works hard to cut the levels of intervention as soon as possible. He does not go crazy with new regulations on the financial industry and that he does not raise trade barriers by as much as he indicated on the campaign trail.
On defense and national security: Obama keeps US forces and diplomacy actively engaged in the world's trouble spots, and does not leave Iraq in a hurry. He capitalises on the feeling of goodwill he has engendered in many parts of the world to help persuade other nations to more actively join the global war on terror.
Let's hope that President Obama is not all gloom and doom for conservatives.
