The OECD have published a report claiming that the gap between the rich and the poor is falling. This report is garbage. Official Government figures show that the ratio of the top and bottom median fifths is in fact unchanged - and indeed higher than in 2000 after housing costs. Middle earners have only seen a small increase in income. More to the point, the general growth in household weekly income since 2000 has been shockingly bad. No wonder everyone was feeling the pinch even before Gordon Brown plunged us all into recession!
