Well, that didn't take long. Those lovely folks over at DailyKos have proved once again that there is simply no level to which they will not sink. The blog is hosting diaries that smear Gov. Palin and her sixteen year old daughter. They state that her Down's Syndrome son is really her grandson, and was the child of her daughter. There are worse smears even than that which I scorn to repeat on Conservative Home.
For the record, this link has pictures of Governor Palin when pregnant with her fifth child. It also contains timelines.
Of course Kos's reputation goes before it, but unfortunately the breathtaking sexism of the left's response extends to mainstream commentators. Alan Colmes, the liberal talking head on FoxNews' debate show Hannity and Colmes, smeared Palin as a mother by stating that she managed her childbirth wrongly. Palin (who resembles Wonder Woman if you ask me) was heavily pregnant but still a month from her due date when her waters broke as she was due to give a speech. Wanting to get on with the job, she called her doctor who advised her that she could continue, delivered the speech, got on a plane, headed home to Alaska and checked into a hospital. As the Governor said, she had had four children previously and knew she was not in labour, and of course, she acted under medical advice.
Waters break, she delivers her speech. Amazing woman. Yet the US left, so-called champions of choice, are lecturing a mother of five healthy children on how she and her doctor manage her delivery?
Unsurprisingly, Palin and her physician were correct; she was not in labour and in fact had to be induced.
But there's still more. The lovely Mr. Colmes noted that Palin's candidacy was announced by John McCain on her twentieth wedding anniversary. He then counted back and noted the age of her eldest child, and tut-tutted that - gasp - she was pregnant before she got married! Say it ain't so! Where is the scarlet A to be sewn on her jacket?
The fact is that there is only one story in this race at the moment, and it is Sarah Palin. Right-wing blogs, left-wing blogs - look at the comments, they talk of nothing else. Meanwhile a CBS news poll finds Palin has evaporated the Democratic conference bounce. It has Obama 49 and McCain 48. It also found that 57% of voters regarded McCain's selection of Palin as reflecting favourably on his ability to make important Presidential decisions.
The left is going to have to do a lot better than this if they want to take this woman down. Like I said, she reminds me of someone...
