From a lazy weekend re-reading of the ever-entertaining Piers Morgan diaries:
Wednesday 24 January 1994
Had dinner last night with Gordon Brown, Labour's Shadow Chancellor... [h]e's a fascinating and formidable man who, as the wine flowed, opened up a bit and revealed a charming side to him the public don't see, but perhaps ought to more often. What struck me most was his determination to know what our readers really cared about. "I want to know the issues they write to you about most," he said. "It's clear that the Tories have completely lost touch with the people of this country and I don't want us to make that mistake."
Sad, innit?
