If Labour are going to dump Brown it always seemed sensible to wait until after next year's European elections. Last week's financial market chaos has given Brown some space to either improve by then or face a challenge. If he does really badly in June 2009's elections I think we should prepared for Prime Minister Miliband and an autumn election.
Paul Waugh lists a likely Miliband Cabinet on his blog (now one of my top ten favourites). These are the men who Paul thinks will fill the top slots:
- Foreign Secretary - James Purnell
- Chancellor - John Hutton
- Home Secretary - Alan Johnson.
But Ben Brogan is right; we most fear Reid in so much as we fear any representative of this bankrupt Labour administration.
