As I've said before, we ought to be alive to the hijacking of protests by the far left.
Unison protested on Kingsway today, past Holborn Station in London.
Once again, the Socialist Workers were out in force, their newspapers and placards promoting their agenda, not Unison's. Once again, there were Che Guevara shirts and hammer and sickle banners.
We have all suffered from Gordon Brown's woeful mismanagement of the economy, public sector workers not least. So I don't at all begrudge them their perfectly reasonable desire to protest, and the exercise of their rights to free speech and to withdraw their labour. My Mum's school couldn't provide lessons today because all of the support staff, who do sterling work and are not well remunerated, were striking. So (I hope) I'm not blinkered on the issue. But if I were in Unison, I would want THAT to be the message - not this socialist rubbish.
