Simon Chapman calls the upcoming contest in Glasgow East the social justice by-election. However, one commenter, a Mr C U Jimmy, calls it the 'Rab C Nesbitt by-election', noting that Elaine C Smith, the actress who plays Mary Nesbitt, has been touted as the SNP candidate.
As it happens, the fictional Nesbitt family live in Govan, and in the second episode of Scotland's finest sitcom, find themselves embroiled in a by-election for the Glasgow Govan constituency. For reasons too complicated to go into here, Rab ends up voting Conservative, in the process accounting for 100% of the overall Conservative vote.
Hopefully we will do better in Glasgow East.
