Donal Blaney posts on the amazing case of a Muslim Police Community Support Officer who allegedly prevented two Christians in Birmingham from handing out Bible extracts in a predominantly Muslim area, ordering them to leave. His justification was the belief that efforts to convert Muslims to Christianity constitute a "hate crime". At a recent police conference, the same PCSO shared a platform with the Home Office Minister Tony McNulty and (appearing in a recorded video) Gordon Brown.
If the account given of the incident is accurate, the matter could scarcely be any more clear cut. The use of state power and veiled threats of violence to quash religious freedom is anathema to anyone who shares the most basic values of a free society. People who indulge such tactics do not belong in our country, let alone the police.
