I'm about to update the CentreRight.com banner and am thinking of putting a different quotation in the banner for each new week. Please suggest quotations in the thread below that capture key elements of centre right/ conservative thinking.
ConservativeHome's Samuel Coates has just completed another two weeks' training for the Territorial Army. My father has been a soldier all of his life and I'm incredibly proud of him and people like Sam who volunteer to serve their country in this way. So my quote is from former Georgia Senator Zell Miller who said this at the 2004 Republican Convention:
"For it has been said so truthfully that it is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the agitator, who has given us the freedom to protest. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, serves beneath the flag, whose coffin is draped by the flag who gives that protester the freedom he abuses to burn that flag."
