I've missed doing this since the suspension of BritainAndAmerica.com and want to get it going again. So here's the restart of my regular (I won't promise daily) all-you-need-to-know guide to the most important election in the world:
John McCain has urged his two Democrat opponents to disown Jimmy Carter for meeting Hamas: “These are thugs and murderers. Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton should directly repudiate and tell President Carter he should not meet with what is fundamentally a terrorist (group).” There's an excellent leader in the Washington Post next to an article from Hamas that "drips with hatred for Israel".
Last night's debate between the Democrat candidates was widely seen as Obama's worst. Toby Harnden has a good report here. Watch the two candidates dodge a question about whether they'll run together.
Eight years ago he was Al Gore's Democrat nominee for Vice President. This year he is John McCain's biggest supporter and likely to be a keynote speaker at the Republican Convention. More on Joe Lieberman's journey.
But if McCain is beginning to look competitive the overall struggle for Republicans remains uphill. Politico has a story about Republican candidates' fundraising difficulties.
PS Brown meets the candidates today but can't find anything (yet) on the US blogosphere.
