At school, I was never terribly good at maths, I must admit, and so I sometimes have trouble adding up. But there is something very big about Ken Livingstone that I find hard to compute.
Ken - and for that matter George Galloway - could not be more liberal about personal morality, their own and others. Ken has fathered several children by different mothers. He allegedly drinks, even in the morning. Galloway - whom I passed on his campaign bus today - posed with innuendo as a purring cat on Big Brother, dressed in a leotard. Both men are ultra-pro gay rights and women's rights ..... and yet, and yet, they have a love-in with men who would hang homosexuals, lock women behind burkhas and veils, ban alcohol, stone adulterers and impose full sharia law. This has been known for a long time, and it has bothered me. But today, the news that Ken is being backed by the Islamists in an organised campaign bothers me even more.
What is it that the backers of suicide bombers, and the newt-loving, leotard-wearing, promiscuous, heavy-drinking champions of gay and women's rights have in common? It doesn't add up.
