Expect the usual reactionary nonsense in response to this one:
David Cameron is pinning his hopes of reducing childhood obesity on a somersaulting, back-flipping, vegetable-eating Icelandic superhero called Sportacus. The Tory leader has invited the star of toddlers' television to be the emblem of his party's anti-flab policies for the very young, at a launch on Thursday. Sportacus, played by Magnus Scheving, is the hyperactive hero of Lazy Town, a show broadcast in more than 100 countries.
In everyday life, there are few sadder sights than a fat toddler waddling behind his or her fat parents. You might argue that this is no one’s business but that of the family concerned – and you might be right, were it not for the long-term consequences that will be visited upon the taxpayer for decades to come. The obesity epidemic is something the Conservative Party needs to engage with now. If we don’t then the agenda will be controlled by the Left, who will waste millions failing to deal with problem.
