I didn't weigh in on the interesting discussion today between Douglas, Alan and Tim because I held a pretty ambiguous position on the Republican nomination. I preferred Romney to McCain in terms of their principles, but felt that McCain stood the better chance of winning in the "fall" - so I would have been happy to see either of them win in a way, but also I dreaded both possibilities.
Now that Romney has gone - as covered in a very good post by Sam Coates - I think that, in the context of the post-Super Tuesday environment, it's good news. That is so because the nature of the Democratic competition is such that the Dems are likely to go to the wire - even, as speculated by Rupert Cornwell in the Indy (they take it in my gym, I promise I didn't pay for it) - even to a floor fight at the convention.
Meanwhile, McCain will have been solid and Presidential for some time by then.
