Just back in the office after visiting my mother in Pimlico for lunch. Walking back to Sloane Square tube I saw the Chelsea Tractors. Three of them in a row. Lined up along Bourne Street with their indicator lights flashing. Their yummy mummy drivers busy picking their children up from Francis Holland. The school run would usually mean more than one child from one or more schools. So the cars might be big but at least they do not entail the ultimate environmental sin of having a driver but no passengers.
These beautiful women showed the pressure in their faces but retained their calm. Would they have managed if they had to cram their offspring into smaller vehicles? For the Mayor of London Ken Livingstone they are the enemy. He sees himself with Castro and Chavez in struggle against them. Beneath the surface environmentalism of his agenda class hatred bubbles away. Livingstone wants to banish these women. I think they deserve medals.
