Has anybody else noticed the overly conciliatory tone being struck by the Home Secretary Jacqui Smith towards the Liberal Democrats on Question Time this evening?
Less than twenty minutes into the programme, Smith has not only heralded the Lib Dem position on party funding (has she forgotten the Michael Brown affair?) but has also praised their "consistency" throughout the Northern Rock saga. At the same time, she has repeatedly fired bitter, partisan salvos at Dr Liam Fox and Louise Bagshawe.
Does this represent a shift in Labour strategy in terms of attempting to shore up dwindling LibDem support in order to undermine the huge steps forward the Conservatives have made in attracting their voters in the past eighteen months?
