As to the truth or otherwise of this important news story, I can say nothing. My work has shown me, though, that there's no such thing as a casual crack hobby. It's highly addictive stuff and it ruins lives. If it is indeed so, then she needs help and I fear that our culture's adulatory approach to celebrity misbehaviour creates perhaps the worst environment in which to obtain it.
