Marcin from Chicago has emailed an interesting comment in response to my post on JRF's attack on army recruitment:
"These Quakers are implicitly admitting that war is glamorous when they claim these advertisements portray the warrior life. Men all over the world, when they watch movies with Clint Eastwood or John Wayne, have a deep respect and, a sort of, jealousy of the warrior culture. These Quakers are only saying this admiration they feel for warriors is a "dirty" feeling, much like how socialists feel "dirty" for maximizing their utility by living in the West and not Cuba."
One of the items on our to-do list for CentreRight is to give all the writers CR email addresses so that you can email comments and tip-offs to them directly.
8am update: An intelligence analyst in Baghdad has sent in a Samuel Johnson quote:
"Every man thinks meanly of himself for not having been a soldier, or not having been at sea....were Socrates and Charles the Twelfth of Sweden both present in any company, and Socrates to say, 'Follow me, and hear a lecture on philosophy;' and Charles, laying his hand on his sword, to say, 'Follow me, and dethrone the Czar;' a man would be ashamed to follow Socrates."
