Michigan-born Mitt Romney ought to have won last night's primary and he did; Republican voters ought to have narrowed the field, but they didn't.
All we need now is for Fred Thompson to win in South Carolina and Rudi Giuliani to win in Florida and we'll have a five horse race for the Republican nomination.
In theory Super Duper Tuesday should settle the matter, but with four or five viable candidates a confused result is a real possibility – in which case the embarrasment of a brokered convention beckons for the GOP.
