Almost unbelievably, the Islamist extremist Yusuf al-Qaradawi looks set to be granted another visa to visit the UK. Qaradawi supports suicide bombings on the West Bank, the execution of homosexuals and of Muslims who lose their faith, and preaches that it is the duty of every Muslim to resist coalition forces in Iraq.
A year ago, I wrote hopefully of signs that the government had finally realised that engaging with Muslim extremists was not working, and was coming around to a more sensible policy. But today's Observer suggests we may once again be about to see this sort of naive appeasement from authorities. Making clear that the likes of Qaradawi and his supporters are not welcome in Britain should be top priority if we are to prevent future 7/7s.
