Councils pay £600 an hour to Council Tax debt chasers

One of the many advantages of lowering Council Tax is that residents are more likely to be able to afford it. The Times this morning reports that "insolvency accountants who chase up small council tax arrears of a few hundred pounds charge up to £600 an hour." Lib Dem MP Vince Cable complains of the "astronomical fees" but the worst culprits mentioned in the article are Lib Dem controlled Sheffield Council and Lib Dem led Southwark Council.
