Spring Conference is taking place this weekend in the great city of Nottingham.
Tory Radio will be conducting the 6th Challenge the Chairman interview with Francis Maude MP.
If you have a question you would like to ask Francis you can leave a comment at the following link:- CHALLENGE THE CHAIRMAN.
Or you can email us at editor@toryradio.com.

When will the hustings for the selection of the London Mayoral candidate start?
Perhaps the editor can also tell us when John Maples will reply to our questions. Or can't he be bothered?

What sort of couples will be eligible for tax allowances?

Can Francis give us the timetable as to when the policy groups will report?

How many members of the National Policy Review Groups originate from or are based in the North of England i.e. From Sheffield upwards ending at the Scottish Border. If there are any can we have their names and contact details please?

David Cameron has repeatedly stated that taking back the "Social Chapter" powers transferred by the UK parliament to Brussels will be a top priority concerning our relationship with the EU.
Since those powers are now enshrined in Art. 136-145 of the EU Treaty, which can only be given back by unanimous agreement (which you know won't be forthcoming), how will he do it?

Is it tiresome having to feign interest in the diseased views of many of the Party's members?
Posted by: Derek Madd | March 14, 2007 at 16:25
The Conservative party won less seats than it should have in the last 3 elections due to campaigning too hard in safe seats, and too softly in marginals. What are you doing to ensure that this won't happen in the next general election?
Posted by: TaxCutter | March 14, 2007 at 17:10
My understanding is that in the last General Election, the Conservatives had more votes than Labour, and yet lost the Election (possibly due to Scotland). However, if there is a requirement for a re-adjustment of some constituencies in the UK, in order that the election be fair,
1. Can this be achieved before the next general election?
or
2. Do we have to wait until the Conservatives are re-elected?

When are you leaving?

Francis,I enjoyed your speech on party funding but I thought it was a little unclear whether we still support more state funding or not.
Considering how well funded we are now thanks to David, how can we justify letting the Government off the hook by still supporting such an unpopular policy as more state funding?

What do you think it means to be a conservative, and whom do you suggest those who see little or nothing conservative in today's party should vote for?

How many agents do have have in paid employment and how many do we have in training?
Posted by: Justin Hinchcliffe | March 14, 2007 at 21:35
What support do you think the Party should be providing for those candidates and associations for whom media training and skills are i) unavailable and ii) unaffordable due to core constraints (ie, CCHQ subs, operational costs, printing etc)?
Also, following on from Justin's question, what percentage of those paid trainee agent positions were designated for Northern associations?

Why doesn't Cameron play up North?

Arthurian Legend - You have your wires crossed. We would not pledge to take back powers for something that does not exist.

Following the near disaster of Bromley, is our parliamentary by election campaign function now fit for purpose?
Posted by: HF | March 15, 2007 at 08:49
When are the hustings for choosing the MEPs going to begin and will we have a straight forward means of selection?
Will the MEP rebels (those who publicly stated they would not leave the EPP/ED Parliamentary group, in defiance of David Cameron's leadership election promise) be allowed to stand for selection?

How do you feel about the use of Councillor's Allowances to pay for previous election expenses? You speak out against further state funding of political parties but appear not to be commenting on current state funding.
Posted by: James Maskell | March 15, 2007 at 09:19
Francis, you are still talking about increasing state funding (read tax payer funding) for political parties.
You are doing this in spite of the overwhelming opposition to state funding from the Party's membership. Whatever happened to DEMOCRACY? Whatever happened to the 'Built to Last' document with its "Trust the People" slogan?

Why aren't there the big mid-term council election and by-election wins that Labour had before 1997 and we had before 1979?
