A really useful summary list.

A couple of thoughts:

1. There are still a few winnable seats where we really should have a candidate in place to start campaigning. Perth and North Perthshire anyone?

2. ALL candidates selected should have a website and should be publicising it as much as possible. Much more info can go on a website than can go on a leaflet and it also means that people who search on the internet for their local Conservative candidate can see who it is. The lamentable state of some association websites is...well...lamentable. Someone at CCHQ should take charge of this.

I live in the seat of Mitcham and Morden; and despite being a seat that the Conservatives held until 1997, they've still not selected a candidate. Sadly it's hardly suprising, the dismal Tory party could only win three seats out of thirty in the locals of 2006 and that was despite winning back Merton Council(due to winning seats in Wimbledon). Round here the Tories seem to have thrown the towel in, I've hardly seen any Boris activity either. A truly sorry state of affairs!

Gwynneth Dunwoody kicked the proverbial bucket tonight. Spare a thought for Crewe & Nantwich's PPC Edward Timpson who will have to cancel his summer hols and fight a by-election. Downing Street officials, private detectives hired by the Labour Party and the left-wing media will looking for dirt on him. If he fails to get the required 8% swing, his career will be finished. Various East London seats have been grouped in a "City Seats" type initiative and will be working a team of putatative candidates very hard in the London election and subsequently before winnowing them down to a team of a size to match the number of actual parliamentary seats, then allocating/selecting later.

This sort of initiative is being used in other urban areas with less Conservative support than might be hoped.

Actual GE results will not necessarily improve as target seats will always draw the resources away closer to the big day, but a team of people will get better profile and interest locally in the run up.
