Steve Barclay selected for NE Cambridgeshire
Two plum seats are selecting this 'Super Duper ' weekend. N E Cambridgeshire today and Maidstone and The Weald tomorrow. Steve Barclay was in the final for both and has been selected today. David Senior was runner up.
Congratulations to Steve who inherits Malcolm Moss' projected majority of 7,530.

So does that mean David Godfrey now goes into the final selection tomorrow? I seem to recall it's male reserve replaces male candidate sort of thing.
I'm a different David, in case you were wondering ;)

Congratulations to Stephen Barclay. It was a tough day today in NE Cambs, selecting from some great quality candidates, but Steve really engaged with the audience and performed excellently.
I am sure he will be a great asset to the constituency.

I am a Rebecca Harris fan and whilst I congratulate Mr Barclay, who I am sure, as a cantab, rugby playing, army officer is a very good egg indeed, it seems that the Tories are ignoring characterful, incisive and open candidates like Miss Harris at their peril. Well done Steve; keep at it Rebecca

Well done that man!Steve fought a superb campaign for Lancaster & Wyre, slashing the Labour majority to a few hundred, against the national trend, and laying the foundation for Ben Wallace to win it in 2005.Long time coming, Steve, but your hard work and dedication will have its just reward.

I am so pleased that Steve has been selected here - lets hope Maidstone make a similarly good decision. I'm sure they will.

Congratulations Steve. Thought you were going for Michael Howard's record there for a while. You deserve it - not enjoy it!

Been away for the weekend and kept away from these reports to avoid any jinx. Until now!
Well done Steve! So fantastically deserved after so much dedicated hard work over so many years!
Brilliant! Enjoy it all!!!

Steve is a good guy. He will make an excellent MP. He did a good job in Lancaster & Wyre in 2001 - it was a longtime coming and richly deserved.

I only wished he had stayed in Lancaster & Wyre!

He'll make a great MP.

NE Cambs have a great candidate in Steve Barclay. No doubt their gain is others loss. Well done Steve - they are one lucky constituency!

I am truly delighted for Steve Barclay. He was an splendid candidate in Lancaster & Wyre in 2001 and many people were sorry that he had to put his business career before being able to fight the 2005 GE to a victory. (And that is absolutely no reflection upon Ben Wallace MP who was an excellent replacement!) Steve deserves a good seat and the electors of NE Cambs. are indeed fortunate to have a prospective MP with such ability and good humour. Many congratulations!

Congratulations to Steve Barclay.
Good varied CV, and rugby player - also forced a recount at Lancaster & Wyre 2001, which was not a vintage year overall.
I'm surprised this seat (Cambs NE) has low party membership actually, because it produced some excellent results from 1987 onwards when the Libs lost and collapsed. Even in 1997 it had a lower swing against us. But one of the local authorities in the area (Fenland) has quite a number of uncontested wards - almost all the seats are Tory. Hopefully party membership will now rise here.
