The BBC News Channel and Sky News are both providing live uninterrupted coverage of Michael Jackson's memorial service at the moment.
Meanwhile, back in London, the House of Commons has just voted on Frank Field's amendment to the Finance Bill, which - had it passed - would have had the effect of stopping the Government from levying any income tax until the Chancellor could confirm that no-one had lost out as a result of the abolition of the 10p tax rate.
In the event, the Government saw off a potential defeat by 311 votes to 268 - a majority of 43 - but I do wonder what would have happened if the Government had been defeated in the vote. It would have been a momentous political story for the Government to lose a vote on its Finance Bill and ministers and whips were suggesting that there would have been mayhem at the Treasury if it had lost.
Would the news channels have broken into the coverage of Michael Jackson's memorial service to tell the story? We'll never know - but I daresay several senior TV executives are breathing a sigh of relief that they didn't have to make that call.
