A gunman in Finland has killed nine people before turning the gun on himself. It is Finland's second school massacre in a year.
No doubt, the gun debate will recommence. The desire to prevent tragedies like this is instinctive and deeply-felt in all of us, and the drive to do something about it is admirable. It's not a left-right issue, I don't think - after all, it was the Liberal Party's John Howard who enacted Australia's most significant gun control laws after the Port Arthur massacre.
But... what is really to be done, given the remarkable example of the failure of legislation provided by us here in the UK? After the post-Dunblane massacre amnesty and ban, the number of guns in circulation has gone UP each year.
