Three very large public sector unions are currently striking in Scotland. Whilst one might wonder why some of the areas for which they are responsible are in the public sector at all, that withdrawal of labour is their right, of course.
However, given that the strikes cause widespread disruption to many services, which certainly gets their point across, one wonders about the effectiveness of extending the strike to crematoriums, as they have done.
Certainly, workers in those facilities have the right to strike just like the others. But the point is being made very widely anyway, and their wages shall rise or fall depending on the success of negotiations across the board. Their strike adds little to their cause; on the other hand, the thought of the bereaved being unable to carry out the funerals they've been preparing themselves for is horrible, isn't it? It rather harms the strikers' cause rather than aiding it, IMHO...
