I don't fit the headline to the piece. As the article and common sense make clear the 68ers won convincingly. There they sit in the media, the church, the civil service, the universities and the schools. In every aspect of social policy they have been triumphant. The right's social policies of the 50s and 60s are dead and objects of ridicule.
The fact that we, that even they, now regret such a complete victory is irrelevant.

The reason why we can't have a sensible drugs policy is because anyone seen to be not demonising drug use is branded a 'hippy', which is what I'm guessing is meant as a 68er - in the same way that we can't have sensible environmental policies as they are associated with the socialist green party... or restrictive immigration policies gets branded as BNP.
It's like saying all autobahns are bad because hitler created them.
This is why we have a system where not-so-harmful drugs like cannabis(not skunk) and extasy are branded the same as very dangerous drugs like cocaine and heroin.
This, of course leads to people who take eg extasy to believe that heroin might not be that bad after all... and then get addicted and die.
If people say cannabis isn't what it used to be, then legalise only the old-fashionned lighter stuff and sell it through authorised shops (like Norweigen vinmonopolets do for alcohol) - and only sell to people who've been on a drug awareness course they have to pay for.
People don't want the stronger stuff as it makes them paranoid and angry - it's just that's what is available.

Prohibition is madness.
When can we have a grown-up discussion?
Pathetic.
