Some rights are best left to the realm of theory

You will be unsurprised to learn that I view the right to represent oneself in court as a fundamental one.  I imagine that we all do.  Nevertheless, here is a thoughtful and considered article over at the Times by Frances Gibb which sets out in glorious and painful detail exactly why one shouldn't.
